Examination of sound insulation and room acoustics

Checking airborne and impact noise, assessing the sound insulation of walls, floors, floor slabs, partitions and service shafts; causes of deterioration after renovation or layout changes.

What is examined

Checking airborne and impact noise, assessing the sound insulation of walls, floors, floor slabs, partitions and service shafts; causes of deterioration after renovation or layout changes.

The work begins with analysis of the situation: source of exposure, premises, time of occurrence, recurrence, complaints, documents, questions for court proceedings, and the condition of structures and building services systems.

Possible tasks

  • measure exposure levels in residential, public or industrial premises;
  • compare the results with the task and permissible levels;
  • establish the likely source of noise, vibration or a physical factor;
  • determine transmission paths through walls, floors, floor slabs, shafts and equipment;
  • prepare a specialist opinion, questions or explanations for court proceedings.

What to provide

  • the address and type of premises;
  • a description of the source and time of occurrence;
  • an apartment or premises layout;
  • photographs, video, audio, records and correspondence;
  • a court order, claim or draft questions;
  • information about renovation, equipment, ventilation and building services systems.

Pricing

from RUB 45,000. The final cost depends on the number of rooms and factors, measurement timing, need for a night-time visit, urgency, court-related task and documents provided.

Noise level and a structure's sound insulation: what needs to be distinguished

An elevated sound level in a room does not in itself show which building element transmits it. To check sound insulation, the structure being examined and relationship between the rooms must be identified: a floor slab, wall, partition, junction or another suspected path. The testing programme differs from recording a random event behind a wall.

Prepare plans of the connected rooms and information about their actual condition. For a floor, documents on its construction build-up and renovation work matter; for a partition, information about changes, openings and junctions matters. If the exact construction build-up is unknown, this is stated expressly rather than replaced with a standard design from another room's project.

Clarify before the examination

  • Which type of transmission is being checked and which structure is to be assessed.
  • Whether both connected rooms are accessible and what access restrictions exist.
  • What has changed since the original construction: floor coverings, finishes, service penetrations or layout.
  • Whether there is a design, records of concealed works, renovation photographs and previous measurement results.

For each result, it is necessary to understand the configuration of rooms and structures in which it was obtained. Subsequent renovation may change the conditions, so the documented states themselves are compared. The need for restoration work is considered after the examined characteristics and suspected transmission paths have been established. A list of repair materials or a promise that noise will no longer be audible does not replace justification of which construction detail was identified as problematic and on what data.

Inquiry

Send a description of the problem and materials

You can send audio, video, photographs, correspondence, building management company records, a court order, a claim, an apartment layout or a description of the noise source.

  • noise from neighbours, lifts, ventilation, pumps and equipment;
  • vibration and structure-borne noise transmitted through walls and floor slabs;
  • sound insulation of walls, floors and partitions;
  • microclimate, ventilation, light and UV/IR exposure;
  • electromagnetic fields and non-ionising radiation.

How data is processed: Personal Data Processing Policy. Submit only necessary materials and obscure unnecessary third-party data.

For court proceedings, it is important to specify the source of exposure, time of occurrence, frequency of occurrence, premises and available documents in advance.

Attachments: up to 10 files of up to 10 MB each, with a maximum combined size of 15 MB. If a file is rejected, the enquiry is not sent.
