Typical scenario

Short impacts are heard when the lift stops

If a bedroom impact seems to accompany lift stops, attribution may be subjective. Suppose not every trip produces it, a refrigerator runs nearby and phone recordings omit stop floor, direction and background noise.

What needs to be clarified

Test timing and accessible vibration paths, separating confirmed coincidence from other sources and untested equipment-condition claims.

Materials to prepare

  • Timed room/event diary
  • Agreed lift movement log and service information
  • Adjacent-room plan and acoustic access

What to compare

Synchronously record room sound, accessible structural vibration and agreed lift events. Compare starts, travel and stops, repeating directions and floors with the operator. Record refrigerator activity, background and trips without impacts to assess timing consistency and possible structural paths.

Possible outcome of the analysis

Time plots and spectra may assess supported paths and define targeted operator checks if association persists, without replacing lift condition assessment.

Limits of the conclusions

An audible impact identifies neither a faulty component nor lift safety. Unsynchronized rare events are difficult to distinguish from other building sources.
